Barbie Doll by Marge Piercy 1. The first time I read the words girlchild, pee-pee, wee-, and cherry candy I was actually a little thrown off. Not as much as by the word girlchild, but more by the other words. What strange words to have in a poem. Yet when I went back and read the poem over, it made more sense to me, as if the words added more meaning to the poem itself. It made me think of things a child would say. 2. In line 5 when the speaker talks of the “magic puberty” I believe she was referring to the child getting her first period and beginning to form breasts, which is what happens during puberty. It does seem like, thinking back to those days, that this was a magical trick, and a bad one at that. Line 6 connects with line 5 because as you hit puberty there are a lot of changes, and most girls do not add up to what the magazines and music videos portray as beautiful.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
