Jennie Tsaralunge, Wk 3 The short story Young Goodman Brown by Nathanial Hawthorne is about young man, Goodman Brown, who lives in Salem, Massachusetts. Goodman is married to a young woman, Faith, who wears pink ribbons in her hair. In the beginning of the story Goodman is getting ready to leave on a trip but Faith does not want him to go. She feels something bad is going to happen and she does not trust herself. Goodman leaves anyway and tells her he will be back by morning. Goodman was leaving to meet with an old man. When he meets the old man he notices that they look much alike. The old man ends up being the Devil, and throughout the story, everyone in Goodman’s life that he cherishes so turns out to be a part of this evilness. In the end the author asks if this really happened or was it just something Goodman dreamt about, but left the story at that. I would answer that question by saying that it was just a dream, by my interpretation. I believe there is a lot of symbolism in the
