John Goodson The Wittig Reaction Introduction: In this experiment, a Wittig reaction will be carried out. A Wittig reaction is an olefination reaction between a phosphorus ylide and an aldehyde or ketone. The Wittig reaction is a synthetically important reaction because it produces a carbon-carbon bond. The ylide in the reaction is formed by the deprotonation of a phosphonium salt with a strong base. In this case, benzyltriphenylphosphoium chloride will be the source of ylide and 9-anthraldehyde will be the aldehyde.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
