John Goodson Reduction of Camphor as a Carbonyl Compound Introduction: In this experiment, a reduction of a carbonyl compound, camphor, will be carried out using sodium borohydride as the reducing agent. Sodium borohydride is a source of hydrides, which undergo nucleophilic addition reactions with ketones and aldehydes to produce alcohols. The products of the reduction are isoborneol and borneol in a 6:1 ratio, respectively.
