What are ‘externalities’?(p122)
The byproduct of production/ consumption process such as waste depletion
pollution and various indirect social cost are called externalities. They do not
immediately detract from growth measured by GDP and they may actually increase
it.

Product (GDP). (p125)
GPI offers a separate accounting of consumption that directly supports human well
being, listing these apart from things that benefit the economy. GPIs also include
things such as unpaid domestic labor, volunteer work, and community
infrastructure. GPIS are adjusted downward for the cost of crime pollution and
environmental degradation.
