6. What are ‘externalities’?(p122) The byproduct of production/ consumption process such as waste depletion pollution and various indirect social cost are called externalities. They do not immediately detract from growth measured by GDP and they may actually increase it. 7. Compare and contrast the Genuine Progress Indicator with Gross National Product (GDP).
