His book contains large amounts of text, shortened to the understanding of his audience. He must achieve his goal by simplifying the text and covering the ideas of perception versus ideas, as well as impressions. Section II: Summary The excerpt uses the same structure that many other books of Englands have used. With that, the author stands by his statement to only conclude things of his experience. He supports this by mentioning renowned writers such as Locke, Butler, Mandeville, and Hutcheson, that have each done the same with their conclusions. Hume begins his excerpt with definitions. He uses the word perception as a determination of how we use our senses, whether it be with passion or reflections. It is anything present of the mind. He divides our perceptions into two kinds.
