12-7-06 Final: three short answers…answer 2 from last midterm to present and two essay questions…whole course. CURRENT EVENTS. Schumpeter—pg. 90…a purely capitalist world can offer no fertile soil to imperialist impulses. That does not mean it cannot maintain an interest in imperialist expansion. People who are involved in capitalism are unwarlike in their dispositions…might have interests but there won’t be any impulses. Wherever capitalism penetrates the economy, there will be the most amount of anti imperialism. Wherever there are strong capitalist tendencies, there is an aversion to war. Says US is therefore least likely to be imperialist. P 99—where free trade prevails, no class has an interest in expansion. Relates to polanyi…he said there was never any pure free trade. Schumpeter—in vogue since 1990s…administrators have adopted this policy. Capitalist society is a free society and a peaceful society. Realted to relationship that the administration thinks exists between the US and the rest of the world.
