Giang Dieple COMM 2024 TR Event Story The Filipino American Student Association feeds their members food and culture BLACKSBURG, Va. - The Filipino American Student Association hosted their annual Pig Event -- to educate their members on Filipino culture with food on Sunday, Oct. 30. The feast occurred in Old Dominion Ballroom of Squires Student Center on Virginia Tech’s campus. Upwards of 100 paid members of the Filipino American Student Association (FASA) attended the event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Mary Tovillo and Trish de Guzman, coordinators of Pig Event, are also the culture chairs of the FASA officer board. “Pig Event is considered one of the most important events in FASA. It has become a tradition that teaches both Filipino and non-Filipino members the history of Filipinos,” said Mary Tovillo. The traditional Filipino dishes offered at the event was served and made by the FASA officer board. The menu included afritada, pancit, beef sinigang, lumpia, chicken adobo, palabok, rice, halo-halo, leche flan, fruit salad and turon. Attendees were able to get a second plate and bring home leftovers. “Most of the dishes are influenced by the Spanish, Japanese and Americans. These countries have spent a great period of time in the Philippines. Their occupancy contributed to Filipino culture, including food,” stated Tovillo.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
