MirageThe water splashed against my skin, the smell of rust intoxicating my nose, mybreaths heavy. I turned off the faucet as my hands held at the sides of the basin. Myeyes trailed to the mirror as I admired myself, intaking every feature of my face. Myeyes trailed off to the white paint peeling from the walls, the stained carpet. Everythingbecame a blur as my eyes locked into hers.My eyes shot wide open as I sat myself up. My sheets wrinkled in my bed as Ipalmed my face, sitting myself up. I looked to my nightstand as I grabbed the pills, Ipopped open the bottle as I swallowed them down, the bitter aftertaste lingering on mytongue. The vibration from my phone caught my attention as I looked at the contact.“Mai,” I whispered to myselfSaying her name felt foreign as it rolled off the tipof my tongue. I powered off my phone as soon as Isaw the message. My hands clenched to a fist as Ipunched the wall, throwing my phone across theroom, the screen shattering to the floor. I went tothe bathroom opening the cupboards, finding anydrug to help contain myself. Bottle after bottle I feltmyself falling to the floor.I woke up to the sight of my mother sitting inthe chair next to me. Her hair covered her face as herhands supported herself up in the position she was in.I snatched my phone off the table as I looked at thetime. 6:05 pm I managed to make out through thecracks. I got out of bed as I placed the blanket overmy mothers small figure, careful not to wake her up. Islowly got out of my room as I walked to the kitchen. Igrabbed paper as I wrote a note for my mother whenshe woke up. As soon as I stepped out the door, thefrosty air hit my body sending shivers down my spine. It felt soothing. I then began towalk off towards my girlfriend's house.
