The movie demonstrated a case study of principles learned in collective bargaining. Management was mistreating its employees and fired a popular worker, sparking outrage among the workers and igniting a unionization campaign. Management took poor care of ensuring the girls would not be filmed and discriminated in scheduling. The girls did the correct thing by contacting SEIU Local 790. However, it seemed the union did not believe they would be able to organize and only sent down one consultant. Regardless, the girls successfully bargained a contract and set a precedent in the industry. While I did not notice any unfair labor practices committed by management, there were signs of disrespect towards the girls. Using vulgarities in the contract and labeling their work as fun angered the girls and brought them together to fight harder to secure a fair contract. After over 15 hours of bargaining and waiting for counter offers, the girls receive a contract that is ratified approximately 72-1 in the agreement’s favor. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
