To what events does the document refer?  When did the event(s) happen? a. Byrd’s diary refers to the events that happen daily in his life.  These  events take place between April 1709 and May 1712. b. Winthrop’s passage refers to a possibility of a plantation in New  England.  This event takes place in 1629. 3. Who is/are the main actor(s)? a. William Byrd, God, Byrd’s friends b. John Winthrop, God 4. Who recorded the documents, and why? a. William Byrd recorded the documents to tell of his daily life. b. John Winthrop recorded the documents because he wanted to  show how the possible plantation in New England would be formed. 5. Who was the intended audience? a. William Byrd’s diary could have been targeted to family, friends, or  anybody else. b.
