Lab Number 5: Conservation of Mechanical Energy Introduction (Purpose of Lab and Hypothesis): Purpose of Lab: To verify that the law of conservation of mechanical energy can predict the velocity of the cart moving down a track. Hypothesis: As the height decreases, the block sliding down the track will lose potential energy and gain kinetic energy. Procedure and Results: In this lab, first I had to gather all of the material such as track, tape, Pasco, cart, laptop and a ruler. Then I had to set up the Pasco and the track for the experiment. I had to make sure to put the Pasco sensor above the tract so it records the cart speed. The next step was that I had to fold a piece of paper and tape it to the cart. I had to get the mass of the cart in grams and then had to convert it into kilograms. Cart mass: 510 g ¿ 0.510 kg Then I had to decide from which height I wanted to let the cart slide down and take the measurement of it. I also had to take measurement of the height where senor was at. I had to subtract the two heights to get my total height for each trail.

"Before using Course Hero my grade was at 78%. By the end of the semester my grade was at 90%. I could not have done it without all the class material I found."

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
