Lab Number 9: Torque and Angular Acceleration Introduction (Purpose of Lab and Hypothesis): Purpose of Lab: To measure the moment of inertia of a crossbar, disk, and ring. Compare the inertia of the disk and ring to each other. Hypothesis: In this experiment, the ring will have greater inertia than the disk when they will be compared. Procedure and Results: 1. First I had to get all the materials for this lab which included crossbar, string, pulley, disk, ring, timer, weights, and ruler. 2. To set up, attach a string, pulley, and a hanger to the crossbar. 3. Find the height of the hanger from the top to the ground level. Height of Hanger: 68.5 cm or 0.685 m 4. Find the friction of the crossbar by adding masses to the hanger until the crossbar starts moving. Friction of Crossbar: 9 g or .009 kg 5. After getting the friction, add 50 grams or .05 kg weight to the hanger and time how long the hanger takes to reach the ground. 6. Repeat step five for 10 trails and find the average by dividing by 2.

###### "Before using Course Hero my grade was at 78%. By the end of the semester my grade was at 90%. I could not have done it without all the class material I found."
— Christopher R., University of Rhode Island '15, Course Hero Intern

### What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
