SHORT ESSAY Short Essay Alcohol is the most prevalent drug of abuse worldwide. Discuss the major, long-term physiological effects of addiction to alcohol. Be sure to include a discussion of the dangers of withdrawal. Alcohol abuse is one of the leading causes of mortality and disability in the world. Alcohol is the cause of many health conditions that very deadly. “Alcohol is one of the five most significant risk factors for diseases, with more than 60 percent of alcohol-related diseases being chronic conditions, including cancer, cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease “(Chisholm et al. 2004). It is common assumption that alcohol takes years to take a toll on one’s health but research suggests that, even over the shorter time frame of adolescence, drinking alcohol can harm your health especially to bones, liver, and the brain along with other important body parts(Chisholm et al. 2004). Alcohol by its self is dangerous but withdraw is very serious. Withdrawal can effect people who have drank heavily for weeks, months and years. If proper medical attention withdrawal can result in death.
