12th Century/ 1100's AD AMERICAS Aztecs Aztlan 1111 AD Texcoco 1168 Tenochtitlan Incas Manco 1190 Cuzco Century of American Origin Aztec= greatest in North America Inca= greatest in South America 1111 AD People later known as the Aztecs were living on a tiny island in the middle of a lake Island was named Aztlan Island Best guess is it was somewhere in Northern Mexico Visted by their Cheif God Cheif God told them they must pack up, leave the island, and find a new home Told the Aztecs they would know when they found their new home because they would see a sign The sign would be an eagle sitting on a cactus eating a snake Believed it was part of divine plan and they were a chosen people 1168 AD wandered into what would be knwon as the vallet of Mexico Valley floor dominated by a huge lake, Lake Texcoco quickly discovered they weren't the only ones in this Valley different ethnic groups home to numerous great civilizations, going back more than 1,000 years Aztecs extremely weak to other peoples already living there
