13th Century/ 1200s AD MONGOLS Temujin 1162-1227AD Genghis Khan 1206 Kalka River 1223 Mstislav Ogedei Ain Jalut 1260 Civil War 1260-1264 Kubilai 1264-1294 Mongols will conquer greatest empire ever seen in the history of the world Zenith was stretched from Pacifc all across Asia into Europe and all across to the mediterranean Dramatic rise and Dramatic fall of the empire Mongols from Mongolia Barbarian tribe who lived to the north of China About 2 million Mongols Spent a lot of time fighting against each other 1162 AD Temujin born Temujin was successful in unifying all of Mongolia under his leadership, 1206 AD Decided to be known as Ganghis Khan (means ruler of everything from ocean to ocean) Decided for 3 reasons he wants to expand beyond Mongolia 1- believed it was too small for the large and growing population 2- feared if he didn't find new external enemies to fight the mongols would fight amongst themselves 3- because they love to fight 1227 AD Mongols had conquered a big empire under the rule of Genghis Khan
