World War I August 23 rd 1914: Japan enters the war against Germany at the bequest of Britain. 1915-1916: Japan makes demands against China, know as the “21 Demands”. Germany fails to negotiate a peace with Japan. 1917: Japanese and Americans join forces along with the other allies

Japan Militarism In the 1920’s Japan moves towards a more democratic state, although still under the control of the Emperor Showa. Japan increases it’s military might, there is an attempted coup which is quickly crushed. May 15 th 1932: Another coup is attempted by the imperial navy. This is reffered to as the May 15 th Incident This period in Japanese history would be known as the Showa Restoration Movement.
