11.29.07 Months ago, I registered for EDU 107 in the hopes that it would start me on a road to a music education degree. With only one week remaining in the semester, I am thankful I signed up for the class because it made me realize how much I would dislike teaching a classroom full of teenaged band students. Although the theme of the class was teaching and education, there was much to learn, even for those who decided not to pursue admission to the teacher education program. Now that I’m almost finished with the class, I am very happy with my decision to earn a degree in music performance and teach at the college level. I learned a lot about teaching as a result of this class. I had absolutely no idea that diversity was such an important idea in schools. I completed my field observations at my former high school, which enrolled a very high percentage of students who had a first language other than English. While I was attending high school, these students were simply “the annoying kids who needed to learn English”. Since taking this class, I
