English 107 October 11 2006 Diabetes and it’s Impact on My Life One of the most significant events that affected me in my life and still affects me today is when I discovered that I had diabetes. This event changed my life significantly because it changed the way I live, the food I eat and the way I do stuff in my everyday life. It has also been very affective to me since I discovered it in my teens which is very hard for a person. Diabetes can be affect a person in many ways and makes life much more difficult for them. I discovered that I had diabetes three years ago when I was in the tenth grade. I was 14 years old at the time which was a very big shock to me since I was very young. I was in the hospital since I had a serious flu and with the tests the doctors took for the flu they discovered that I had diabetes. They were giving me medication for the diabetes and I didn’t know that it was for diabetes until my older cousin which is also a doctor asked them what this was for and they told her that it was insulin that is for diabetes. When my cousin informed me that I had diabetes I was very shocked and was very sad because this would change my life. When I discovered that I had diabetes I had a lot of mixed thoughts and feelings which made me didn’t know how to think straight. I was shocked, sad, and didn’t know exactly what to think. I was wondering what would change in my life because of it. I thought that it wouldn’t affect me very much and a change in the diet of my food isn’t that big of a deal and that it would be easy. I was wrong, only in the couple of days that I had spent in the hospital receiving the medication my blood sugar would either rise a lot or just be very low. When it would be high you wouldn’t feel it very much except that 1
