Tyler Chartash September 16 th , 2016 MUSC220 Encountering “Bali” These websites: Lonely Planet, Trip Advisor and Wiki Travel describe Bali as a hidden paradise within the islands of Indonesia, full of beautiful landscapes and joyous citizens. Pictures used on websites resemble photos that would be found on post cards, similar to what was discussed in class. Intended audiences for these sites are western tourists looking for an exotic vacation destination. As noted in Harnish’s writing, Bali’s tourism used to account for nearly seventy five percent of the country’s revenue, but has suffered greatly in recent decades. The attacks on September 11 th , 2001 and the following war in Iraq have hampered tourism in Bali but these websites continue to advertise Bali’s tourist attractions. The audiences of these websites will most likely react with a combination of awe and fascination. The awe would be created by the striking images
