Professor Petreguin/Class, The Ku Klux Klan was an organization established in 1866 as a way to go against the Republican Party’s Reconstruction Policy. The KKK was against the believe that blacks or whites that supported the Republicans had the right for equal treatment. The Klan “saw its primary goal-the reestablishment of white supremacy-fulfilled through Democratic victories in state legislature across the South in the 1870s”(History, 2016). The Ku Klux Klan was made up of former Confederate soldiers, poor white farmers and white Southerners who were sympathetic to white supremacy. They used force and violence to try and get their point across. Many of the victims of their rage were black political leaders, black religious leaders and any black person who supported or was a part of the Republican party. They did not only stop there, they also attacked and destroyed churches, schools and other institutions without a regard topeople being inside these structures.
