Terms Data = the information that is gathered. Primary data = original data collected to fit a specific research objective. Secondary data = data collected for another purpose (or by someone else) and used to fill a current need. Research = the act of obtaining the data or information.

Primary v. Secondary Research Primary research involves the collection of original, primary data to answer a specific problem , often through interviews, surveys, observation or experiments. The book also calls this “field research” Secondary research involves examining secondary data collected (often by another entity) for a larger need than the current problem being addressed. The book also calls this “desk research”
