NURS 6050 8: Policy and Advocacy for Improving Population Health Main Post Healthcare Financing Even those that are covered by private insurances that are privately funded are affected by the changes to the publicly funded insurance programs such as Medicaid, Medicare, and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). The rules for payments and formulas used to determine compensation for healthcare for the publicly funded insurance programs are being adopted by some privately funded insurers. One example would be the diagnosis-related group (DRG) pays a fixed amount for a diagnosis, not on actual cost of the treatment plan, this in effect, encourages the treating facility to produce a more efficient favorable outcome. Thinking that cost is not a consideration in the delivery of care even in the privately funded sector is not feasible. (Knickman, 2015).
