What is Neurolingustics and why should we study it to understand language acquisition and development? “Neurolingustics is the science concerned with the human brain mechanisms underlying the comprehension, production and abstract knowledge of language, be it spoken, signed or written. Neurolingustics has highlighted the special role of that part of the human brain known as Broca's area in crucial aspects of human language, namely syntax: the component of language that involves recursion.” 2. Describe the lobes of the brain a. Temporal – side of the brain contains primary auditory cortex, receives sound stimuli from the acoustic nerve and processes what the ear hears b. Occipital – back of brain, vision c. Frontal –controls the articulators, motor planning and speech, verbalization of messages d. Parietal - top of head toward back of cortex deals with speech and language 3. What are the functions and locations of Broca’s and Wernikes areas?
