Integrating Theories 3 Today, no matter the situation or location in the world, all counselors dis- cover that in order to be effective they must consider several different theoretical approaches in psychology. Today it is important for all therapists to become knowledgeable of various theories in dealing with various individuals, in order for the focus to help others and understand human behavior and thinking. Many therapists do operate and work from one particular theory, or they work from a framework of several different theories in which they have to compromise with in order to be truly helpful to their clients for effective treatment. Therapists should avoid focusing on just systematic counseling approach since the same approach would not fit all individuals or their situations. Being able to see from every client s perspective, and problem that is presented is of great benefit and taking from nu- merous counseling approaches will allow for that. For example with a client who has had a poor background with parental love and support but needs that now through counseling you would come from a positive approach would work however if they have severe phobias, the approach would be cognitive behavioral therapy. Procedures are not selected haphazardly, but their selec- tion is specifically dependent on a logical decisional process that takes into account the client, setting, problem, and the nature of the counselor

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
