Letter to Freud 2 Hello Mr. Freud, my name is Kiyana Lonon and I am a 36 year old student of psychology and I have been learning much about the various concepts of your many theories. I appreciate your experience, drive and passion in analyzing the human mind and hope to con- tinue and understanding the many facets of your work. I have much respect for you and send my warm regards and thank you for the work you have done paving the way for others. Unconscious The unconscious does contain much material and acts as a place where all primitive and significant information is kept. “The unconscious mind is important, based on the fact that it governs behavior of people greater than suspected”(McLeod, 2015). In comparison with the iceberg there are three levels of the mind, on the surface or the tip is the consciousness, contains thoughts that takes our attention now. (McLeod,2015) In critique, the bases for primitive urges protecting the rest of the brain is very strange to me. The mind operates most efficiently by relegating a significant degree of high level, sophisticated processing to the unconscious . (Mcleod, 2015) Freud views the unconscious as a single entity, which is not valid to me and from research, it shows that the unconscious is broader than this that allows for decisions to be made, and allowances for facial recognition. (Chomsky,1972) Freud also believed that those urges that are held in the unconscious protect people from anxiety, however most of the information that our brain processes is held outside of the consciousness for efficiency, underestimating the importance of the unconscious.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
