Running head: MOTHER’S AGAINST DRUNK DRIVERS(MADD) 2Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is a nonprofit organization in the United States and Canada that seeks to end drunk driving, help fight drugged driving, support the victims of these violent crimes, and help prevent underage drinking. MADD started around the 1980’s to advocate for stricter laws against driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, and underage drinking. Mothers Against Drunk Driving delivers support to actual victims or the families of victims that have been affected because of someone was driving while under the influence. Before Mothers of Drunk Drivers took a stance and made the notification that sentences that were being given to drivers under the influence, whether it be drugs, alcohol, or both were tremendously lenient with insignificant consequences to include fines, imprisonment or none. Because of the innovation of MADD, there have been numerous deterrence programs constructed to warn those of the validity of driving under the influence as well as harsher penalties for those arraigned with the offense. The penalization for driving impaired is no longer just a slap on the wrist. Since the formation and antiquity of Mothers Against, Drunk Driving has helped formed and cultivate social policies and the influences.
