2 Introduction to Cross Cultural Psychology Paper Introduction Culture has a major impact on personality and how an individual perceives the world they live in. Culture also plays a role in cognitive development, learning, and social interaction. This paper will focus on cultural psychology and cross cultural psychology by analyzing a case study involving Pacific Island families. Through this case study we will examine the methodology involved with cross cultural psychology research and discuss how enculturation may have been a factor in this particular case study. Furthermore, I will offer insight as to how this study can create a better understanding of how ethnicity, race, and worldviews are separate yet related concepts. Overview of the Case Study The Cross Cultural Psychology Journal published: Pacific Island Families Study: The Association of Infant Health Risk Indicators of Pacific Island Mothers Living in New Zealand. This study follows just under 1,400 infants and their mothers over a period of time to examine how maternal acculturation and health risk indicators affect the infant and mother. The mothers are of Pacific Island descent and have migrated to New Zealand. The findings of this study concluded that infants and mothers who had strong cultural ties to their Pacific Island descent were the most likely to remain healthy. In other words, Pacific immigrants that lost their cultural identity seemed to suffer the most in terms of health and well-being. Defining Cultural and Cross Cultural Psychology People and culture are undeniably intertwined as they influence one another. Cultural psychology explores the relationship between culture and people and the effects it has on each.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
