Unformatted text preview: 29 The Fight Against Illegal Drugs Prepared for: The Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs Prepared by: Team NBI - Marc Ghiron, Yonah Schwartz, Robert Stark Date: May 11, 2007 29 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY We established twenty global problems that must be solved, based on our reading of High Noon by J. F. Rischard. The problem that we found most influential after reading the book was illegal drugs. Profit’s from the sale of these illegal drugs is directly linked to funding terrorism. Team NBI has taken an initiative to find a way to stop terrorists from getting their hands on drug money. We researched how and where illegal drugs were being smuggled in order to formulate our problem Statement, “How can we stop the transfer of money from the sale of illegal drugs in the United States from reaching the hands of terrorist groups such as Al-Qaeda.” Then, we researched articles and information on what is currently being done to combat this problem, and what has been done in the past. After that, we brainstormed several different ideas to combat this problem. After all our research we continued by creating a solution that prevents illegal money from leaving the United States. Our solution is called a Radar Secured Currency Detector. The Findings of this project are as follows: • Terrorists use many different money transfer methods. • Shutting down any of these methods would be a huge financial blow to terrorists. • Our Radar Secured Currency Detector will prevent the smuggling of large quantities of money out of the United States. Our research has concluded that stopping money from being smuggled out of the United states will not only help reduce the amount of illegal drugs in the United states, but also help stop the funding of terrorism. 29 TABLE OF CONTENTS PAGE TITLE PAGE .....................................................................................................................1 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY ...............................................................................................2 TABLE OF CONTENTS ..................................................................................................3 INTRODUCTION .............................................................................................................6 Three Problems from High Noon............................................................................6 Research Memos......................................................................................................6 Problem Statement...................................................................................................7 Client Description....................................................................................................7 First Analytical Review...........................................................................................7 Brainstorming Session.............................................................................................8Brainstorming Session....
