Coulomb’s Law Lab Alex Frieden AP Physics B Period 1 AP Physics B class Mr. Ricker Lab completed :January 18th 2006 Coulomb’s Law Lab Objective: To analyze the resultant force of two similarly charged particles placed at a variable distance using Coulomb’s Law. Procedure: Two Pith Ball’s are mounted one above the other. The lower ball is resting on a zeroed scale. The upper ball is rigged so that it can move up and down linearly. Both balls are charged with the same amount of electrical energy and therefore repel each other causing the scale to read a difference in mass even thought the ball does not get more massive Measurements: The distance from the mount to the ground was measured as h this is relative to r (the distance between pith balls) The reading on the scale was measured in grams Figure 1a: Experimental setup Figure 1b: Experimental setup 1 Scale Distance h Distance r
