Max Weber, Economy and Society Notes: Three Component System: (power can be demo. in various forms) Wealth- includes wealth and other positions (economic situations) Prestige- the respect which is based on the class + power one has (status situation) Power- the ability to accomplish one's goals despite people’s oppositions (parties) Class power - idea that if you want something but another person has it then that makes them more powerful than you. Social power - if you respect someone than they are more powerful than you because you respond positively to their instructions. Party - when you control the decision making process than you are powerful because you can affect the state decision process? Social action - entails parties because they are affected by the decision making process. Social mobility - the greater number there is then it will be easier to move the propertied class the non-propertied class petit bourgeois manual labourer class Domination - the power over sphere of influence charisma - hitler, idea that in times of crisis a charismatic person will have the power but this power will not last traditional - authority that is most common and does not diff. from private and public sectors ration-legal - set rules and believe that process are there to create laws Class - determined on how much a person owns skilled - semi-skilled - unskilled - *all have different wages and result in diff. standards of living and produce diff. work
