After children hit the preschool age their physical development stays the same for a few years. After children get out of preschool children tend to go through grow spurts. Children tend to become long and lanky at this time in their life. Many people think that since children are long and lanky that they aren’t getting enough healthy foods to eat. It is important that we make sure we continue to feed our children very healthy and balanced diets and this time in their lives. If they learn good eating habits while they are young they will have easier time making the right healthy choices later on in life. Some people that children under the age of ten don’t really understand much, which is very wrong. I know my daughter understands a lot. Both her father and I explain to her that she needs to eat well-balanced meals everyday. She understands what proteins are and how they help give her energy. She also understands that junk food is something that we eat every once in a great while. My daughter has actually tried to explain to her best friend why McDonald’s is bad and why they couldn’t have dinner there. People need to realize that teaching our children healthy eating habits isn’t hard. You just have to explain to your children why they need a certain food or why they have to limit certain foods. If we teach them what is in a balanced meal young they will end up living healthier lives and child obesity would go drop greatly. There are many problems that can arise from children not eating correctly. When children don’t understand what harm the foods they are putting in their bodies is doing, they keep on eating those foods. Bad diets can lead to overweight and obese children. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website, “Overweight is defined as having excess body

weight for a particular height from fat, muscle, bone, water, or a combination of these factors. Obesity is defined as having excess body fat.” More than a third of our children are overweight or obese. Heavier children have higher chance of cardiovascular disease, such as high cholesterol or high blood pressure. They also have a higher risk factor when it comes to developing type two diabetes. Another issue I have noticed with children this age is being able to write. During preschool is when children should learn how to hold a pencil, pen, crayon, or marker. Around first grade children should be able to color and draw more clearly. Some of the mothers I know complain saying all they had to do in first grade was cut and paste and sing my ABC’s. Nowadays our children are more advances in every way possible. They learn how to read and write sooner than when I was a child. Some parents don’t understand why it is important for children to know so much at a young age. Many people don’t realize that coloring is something that can be very helpful to us throughout our whole lives. I know that when I can’t

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
