Dave Flitton’s film “The History of the Devil” was very informative and interesting. I was amazed to learn how today’s image of the devil came to be. I never knew that there was so many different religions that believed in the devil and how much the view of the devil changed over the centuries. Some religions had the same perspective of the devil while others had many different views about who or what the devil really is. For instance, Satan began over 3,000 years ago in the middle east. According to the Hebrew Bible he wasn’t evil. He was actually one of God’s servants. His job was to do God’s dirty work. I can see why the devil later became hated, since no one likes the guy who has to punish people all the time. A religious teacher name Zoroaster in Persia narrowed the gods down to just two. One good god Ahura Mazda, god of light and order, and the evil god, Ahriman, god of chaos, darkness, and lies. That is just like today’s Christian belief of God and the Devil. The universe was a battle between good and evil, which is still true today. The good are rewarded with heaven
