Earth/Environmental Science Name________________________ Unit: Earth’s History Period________________ Geologic Time Lab # 8 Introduction: Time is a dimension (often called the fourth dimension) required to locate an event in history. It is difficult to comprehend the age of the Earth and the time that various geologic events occurred in the past. The ages of the Earth have been divided up by scientists into geologic eras. Each geologic era is based on the type of rocks and the fossil remains, if any, of plants and animals that might have existed at the time. These living things ranged from single-celled organisms to giant animals and plants. The majority of these living things appeared, became dominant forms during their time, and then disappeared or became less abundant. A model drawn to scale is often useful in visualizing accurate time spans between events. Objective: You will construct a model illustrating some geologic and biologic events. Materials: Adding machine tape (5 meters long), scissors, colored pencils, textbook, ruler Procedure: Use this lab sheet and read the directions carefully to complete the activity.
