African American women usually have strong family ties Cost of caring Fatalism (holds people back) o Religiosity o More flexibility to adapt to situations Opportunity o Tokenism – being singled out Individuals may have to work harder Under employment – may be unqualified “Uppity” – thinking you’re better than someone in your own group
