Perspective on ChangeFrom my perspective, I believe change is inevitable and a natural part of life. People can changefor a number of reasons; usually out of necessity or desire. As human beings, we areprogrammed to adapt to our environment. Change can often occur due to the need to adapt.According to Broderick & Blewitt (2020), genes can do nothing without environmental input, environmental effects are shaped by genetic constraints. There are many different factors thataffect how and why a person changes from socioeconomic status, genetics, or environment.Change and ContinuityA theory that touches on change and continuity in our society is the Social Safety Theory. ThisTheory states that the human brain is designed to keep us biologically and physically safe fromharm. When our brain or body notices a threat, it will adapt to reduce the threat and seeksocially safe situations and behaviors (Slavich, 2022). This theory ties into change and continuitybecause when humans feel threatened or unsafe, it is in our nature to seek change in order toadapt to the situation, which is why change is inevitable.Future Work as a CounselorMy perspective will influence my future work as a counselor in a positive way.
