What is a niche? It includes all the ways that the species interacts with the biotic and abiotic factors of the environment. Two important aspects of a species’ niche are the food it eats and how the food is obtained. Two important aspects of a species’ niche are the food it eats and how the food is obtained. A niche refers to the role of a species in its ecosystem. Looking at these bird beaks, it is easy to see how they are adapted for the food they eat!

Habitat The habitat is the physical environment in which a species lives and to which it is adapted. The habitat is determined by the abiotic factors including temperature and rainfall. Compare the habitats of the penguin and elk. Where would you want to live?
