1/22/08 Review: Glycolysis: 1. Substrate – Glucose 2. ATP’s – 4 Gross, 2 net 3. Bi Product – Pyruvate 4. Enzyme(s) – LDH - NAD –coenzyme 5. NAD = hydrogen transporter to aerobic system 6. NAD2H – oxidized at aerobic pathway IF sufficient O2 7. If sufficient O2 – then pyruvate + NAD2H === Lactic acid + NADox Aerobic Metabolism: 1. Enzymatic pathways found in mitochondria 2. Krebs Cycle and Cytochrome system 3. ICC- FFA (free fatty acids), AA (amino acids), pyruvate can be metabolized (Krebs Cycle) 4. Elements: CHU- carbon, hydrogen, oxygen; Fats same; Protein same (+ Nitrogen) 5. End products of CHU + Fat; met=H20, CO2 + Energy Just know numbers: C6H12O6 +36ADP + 6O2 = 6CO2 + 6H20 + 36 ATP Respiratory Quotient (RQ) = VCO2 / VO2; carbon dioxide divided by oxygen 6/6 = 1.00 (know person is using carbs 100% as source of energy) Palmitate : C16H32O2 + 129ADP + 24O2 16 Co2 + 16 H20 +129ATP (Non-Protein RQ, via urine) Protein not energy food; that’s carbs when exercising
