This thought process is a significant barrier for global business becausecompanies can fall into the trap of ignoring others’ values and customs and even applying anattitude of “ours is better than yours” to a foreign culture. This process can hinder thatcompany when trying to compete globally with companies who are working towardsunderstanding foreign customs and market differences.Next, an ethnocentric mentality is analogous to parochialism in that it is based on theidea that the best job methods and activities come from one's land. An ethnocentric person orbusiness tends to judge everything based on their predefined values and compare otherlifeways with their own. While companies wish to shy away from this ideology, manyconsumers agree with the attitude of ethnocentrism.
