Milin Patel Physics H Period: 6 1/29/16 Purpose : The purpose of this lab was to verify graphically that the centripetal force F is proportional to v 2 and determine the mass of the stopper. Also, to study the nature of centripetal force and to measure the relationship between centripetal force, mass, and velocity. Procedure: Place some washers on the string and practice rotating the stopper by placing a finger next to the string, then moving your hand in a circular motion. You are trying to move the stopper with a consistent, balancing motion, just enough so the stopper does not move in or out. A marker dot placed on the string just below the tube will help you maintain a consistent motion by providing a point of reference as well as helping with length measurements. With a bit of practice, you’ll be ready to take measurements. Make four or five trials by rotating the stopper with a different number of washers on the string each time and repeat it as many times necessary. Materials: Stopper

What students are saying

• As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

Kiran Temple University Fox School of Business ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• I cannot even describe how much Course Hero helped me this summer. It’s truly become something I can always rely on and help me. In the end, I was not only able to survive summer classes, but I was able to thrive thanks to Course Hero.

Dana University of Pennsylvania ‘17, Course Hero Intern

• The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
