MRS. FLOWERS AND MARGUERITE2Mrs. Flowers and MargueriteThe essay “Sister Flowers,” by Maya Angelou describes the relationship between a younggirl named Marguerite, and her idol, Mrs. Bertha Flowers. The purpose of this essay was toexplain in detail the impact Mrs. Flowers had on young Marguerite. The writing pattern Angelouused was narrative. I feel that she used this pattern very well. Her usage of descriptive writingindefinitely brought to light what things looked like, smelled like, sounded like, and even howthings tasted. Angelou made me feel as though I was sitting right beside Marguerite during theentire reading.The description given of Mrs. Flowers in the first two paragraphs is wonderful. “She wasthin without the taut look of wiry people (Angelou, 2015),” was very creative.
