IntroductionOver the past several decades, the primary energy consumption sources has changed.From 1950-2021, the three main sources include: coal, natural gas, and petroleum. The two othermain sources that have started to slowly increase during this time are nuclear and renewables(U.S. Energy, 2022). These renewable energy sources include geothermal, solar, hydroelectric,wind, biomass (biomass waste, biofuels, and wood). Regarding data visualization and illustratingand communicating data, I have chosen a data set related to Energy Consumption.Visual Representation #1(Source: Google Public Data)This visual representation would be applicable to the energy government agencies for thetop 5 most populated states in the US (Resident Population, 2022). These states include Texas,California, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania. From 1980 to 2019, the energy consumptionfor the residential sector has increased for Texas, California, and Florida. New York andPennsylvania’s energy consumption seems to be steady overall.
The overall message may change for each audience since some states are “losing” or“gaining” new residents due to the increase of housing costs from the COVID-19 pandemic. Forexample, here in Colorado, specifically, Colorado Springs, the price of a house has increased dueto more people from California migrating eastwards (Colorado, Utah, Texas and Arizona). Theaudience will be familiar with the information being presented as the energy government
