Je’Lyn Batey 10-9-16 History 106-11 Family History Interview Prospectus In this family history interview paper, I will be interviewing my grandmother, Mary Terry on October 23, 2016 over the phone. The topic of the research will be the death of Dr. Martin Luther King which occurred on April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr.King was a Civil Rights leader since the 1950s who strongly vouched for the equal rights of African Americans throughout the United States. He fervently believed that non-violent acts such as boycotts and protests would win over segregation unlike other leaders such as Malcolm X during the time who believed in “an eye for an eye.” He was known for his words of encouragement to the oppressed and the, “I Have a Dream” speech in 1963, five years before his murder. He advocated, not only for poor black Americans, but also for poor white Americans and desired for them all to come together and address unemployment and poverty for all people.
