DISNEY & PIXAR 1.0 Background 1.1 Background – Disney Walt Disney was established in 1923, when Walt Disney signed a contract with M.J. Winkler. It is one of the largest media and entertainment corporations in the world Walt Disney owns 11 theme parks and several television networks, including the American broadcasting company (ABC). Disney started making films in the 1930’s. Earlier films were animated adaptation of children’s fairytales. 1.2 Background – Pixar Pixar started in 1979 as the graphic group part of the Lucas Film computer division. Pixar Animation studios was created by John Lasseter and George Lucas. Steve jobs purchased in 1986 for $10 million. In 1987 Pixar released the short film (Red’s Dream) The first features film, Toy Story was released in 1995 becoming the highest grossing film Worthing $362 million. Tin Toy won an academic award best animated short film in 1988. 2.0 Reasons for M&A Disney & Pixar both had close relationship . The merging together of the two largest, successful companies had the sprit to create barriers in organizational change. Disney and Pixar collaborated without any external problems Disney merged with Pixar to reboot its long failing image The goal behind the merging of Disney and Pixar was to create stories and film characters that will attract millions of Disney consumers around the globe In 2006 Disney purchased Pixar for a net worth of $7.4billion.
3.0 Scheme of the M&A 3.1 Timeline Figure 1: Timeline 1991 Disney and Pixar announce an agreement for partnership "to make and distribute at least one computer-generated animated movie." 1995 Toy Story, the world’s first computer animated feature film, is released in theaters on November 22. Toy Story also becomes the highest grossing film of 1995, making $192 million domestically and $362 million worldwide. This successful after the partnership with Disney.
