Marsh 1 Alicia Marsh Mr. Marshall Dystopian Lit. 4 November 2016 Frustration Motivation For this scene Winston sits in front of a plaque, light beaming from it’s surface. The light changes, and a grating noise sounds to demand attention. Now, instead of a blank screen, there appeared the face of another man. At the first glance of his face, Winston hissed. Words were spoken, but the longer the face remained,Winston grew angrier and built up so much that he went into a frenzy. He shouted curses and screamed insults, even picking up a nearby object to hurl at the screen, trying to attack the man. Soon, this face melted into that of a soldier. His face emotionless, he charged at the screen, gun in hand, and Winston cowered. Though he was still hysterical, his fear of this enemy took over, and he tried to be brave and scare off this monster. This terrifying image morphed into the calming face of Big Brother. Winston felt a wash of relief, sitting back in his seat before beginning to quietly sing the praises of Big Brother. In1984,
