Third Party Logistics 2 Third Party Logistics Third party logistic serves also known as 3PL is when a company outsources all or most of the logistic operations to a specialized company. Up until 1970s contracts for transportation only featured the carrier and shipper. “When IMCs entered the picture—as intermediaries that accepted shipments from the shippers and tendered them to the rail carriers—they became the third party to the contract, the 3PL. Definition has broadened to the point where these days, every company that offers some kind of logistics service for hire calls itself a 3PL.” Since we’ve established the understanding of a 3PL let’s look at the different types of logistics services. Transportation based third party logistic services uses assets of other firms. An example of this would-be FedEx or UPS as they provide services beyond transportation. Warehouse distribution based third party logistics services typically have warehouse and/or distribution experience. Forwarder based third party logistics services has independent middlemen with forward roles.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
