The Sexual Revolution (Early 20th Century)The sexual revolution started in several ways, depending on who you ask. But there’s no doubt that this revolution initiated in the past 80 to 100 years when people started being more open about what was considered taboo. Many people talk about a sexual revolution in reference to rates of sexual intercourse before marriage. Many of our history books would lead us to believe that in the past, Americans were sexually chaste before marriage. If we read between the lines, however, we find that this is not necessarily true (Greenberg, 2013).
