SCAVENGER HUNT 2 – CULTURE The elements of culture can be divided into four groupings: 1. Beliefs – This is the way you think. These are ideas which reflect what people in a culture value. Some examples can be; ideas concerning the way men and women should be in the home and the workplace, ideals about where we should live (type of home or neighborhood) and also religious beliefs. 2. Language – This is the way you communicate your beliefs. The language a person speaks is given to them by their parents which reflects their parent's culture. 3. Behaviors – This is an action which generally reflect a person's belief. This the way in which people act according to their cultural expectations. For example; if you believe a funeral is a somber occasion then you will act sad and wear black. If you culture believes that a funeral is a happy occasion then you wear party clothes, dance and act wildly. 4. Objects – These are tangible items that are specific to a culture that all cultures make. Some examples are; clothing, food, architecture, cooking vessels, and technology.
