Procedure Lab 05 Adam Golman Part A: Unknown Hydrate 1. Obtain a crucible and lid from the side shelf. 2. Wash and rinse with 6M HNO 3 and then distilled water 3. Place on a clay triangle with the lid partially open. 4. Heat to redness for 5 min 5. Using tongs, remove crucible and lid from the clay triangle 6. Place them in the desicooler and cool to room temp 7. While waiting, obtain a numbered unknown label and then anhydrous formula weight of this unknown from your instructor. 8. Place the label on your snap cap jar and go to the store room to retrieve the sample. 9. Weight the cooled crucible and lid (0.001g). 10. Place you unknown hydrate in the crucible, replace the lid, and weight. 11. Your unknown should weigh between 0.7g and 0.9 g. 12.Place the crucible on a clay triangle with eh lid partially open. 13. Heat, gently at first, for about 10-15 minutes, but not to redness 14. Place the crucible in the desicooler. 15. Start next part of procedure while waiting to cool
