He was co- founder of the Standard Oil Company, which dominated the oil industry and was the first great US business trust. 6) Homestead Strike - an industrial lockout and strike, which began on June 30, 1892, culminating in a battle between strikers and private security agents on Huly 6, 1892. 7) Vertical Integration - an arrangement in which that company owns the supply chain of a company. 8) Horizontal Integration - the process of a company increasing production of goods or services at the same part of the supply chain. 9) Credit Mobilier - a construction company chartered to build the Union Pacific Railroad by financing it with unmarketable bonds. 10) Interlocking Directorate - the practice of members of a corporate board of directors serving on the boards of multiple corporations. 11) Colored Farmers’ National Alliance -formed in 1886 in Texas. Despite the fact that both black and white farmers faced great difficulties due to the rising price of farming and the decreasing profits which were coming from farming, the protective organization known as the Southern Farmers’ Alliance did not allow black farmers to join. 12) Liberal Republicans - political party that was organized in Cincinnati in May 1972, to oppose the reelection of Ulysses S. Grant and his Radical Republican supporters in the presidential election of 1872. 13) Literacy Test - a test of a person’s understanding of a particular language, used to differentiate racial minorities, between the 1850s and 1960s.
